“WHOLENESS” IN PROSTHESIS

Facetune_13-04-2018-17-38-53Some people will only love you as long as you fit in their box. Don’t be afraid to disappoint. Put Me in a box. 📷 @davidzhsu “ Wholeness in #Prosthesis ” series. 🙏🏼 .

Y’all ask a lot, here’s where my ❤️ lies on wearing my #prosthetic … the concept that we may conform to be whole again, for aesthetic/cosmetic purposes. If you’re up for it 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼📖💕🦋🤪 .

Am I not whole with ONE hand ? I am beyond grateful for my #prosthetic provided by so many in the early stages after my accident. For me, I immediately had an acceptance for the Woman I was to become🧐There was a part of me that felt as if wearing my prosthetic was a projection for others; to conform to be “normal” again. “But what defines normalcy?” I’d say. This became my new normal! It’s conflicting as 2 hands vs. one may alleviate stares, glares and the inevitable whispers, “what happened to her?” I then realized those feelings of being an outcast or even topic of conversation were bothersome but not something I’d ever try to mask. Learning to be COMFORTABLE IN YOUR OWN SKIN is something I try to encourage on a daily!!!! A prosthetic has proved to be unauthentic to who I’ve become bc by God’s grace, I am capable ENOUGH, my way, with one hand. Unfortunately SO many are NOT and I 💯 support the incredible technologies for functionality! I am forever grateful for my prosthetic hand, made possible by fundraising. I wear it to auditions and filming if needed, but I can’t support masking who I truly am and don’t wear it on a daily. My prosthetic is a piece of art that can enhance my natural abilities but it is not there to replace who I am.

It’s difficult in an image-obsessed beauty culture for any woman—let alone a woman who is an #amputee —to feel confident in her own skin. One thing I stay true to is that I will never conform or send the message that only with a prosthetic I’m whole again, or that with a prosthetic you can be loved, cherished and beautiful. Because who you are, just as you are, is who the world needs.” ~ #thisisME #believeandbecome XX

Facetune_07-05-2018-18-37-14I figured it out.
My way.
Inner reflexion. dz-8832Some say I’ve grown accustomed but looks pretty normal to me. Exploring the idea of “wholeness” in #prosthesis ; they’re frikin amazing, beautiful, absolutely Godsend but so are YOU’s Just the way you’s are!! XX

  1. Your wholeness isn’t defined by you wearing a prosthesis or not. You are as whole as you were before your accident. Wholeness is defined from the inside and not the outer shell. You are a gorgeous woman.

  2. Thank you for your openness and honesty. Indeed, we are individuals. It can be hard to face the world with one hand, a wheelchair, white cane, etc. Your encouragement will undoubtedly be helpful to many people.
